Hi everyone, my name is April Schulte and I am the manager of the South Dakota Rehab Center for the Blind which is located in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. And so we are under the Department of Human Services under the Division of Service to the Blind and Visually Impaired. And so our goal is to help people to learn independent living skills in order to keep them independent in their home, community, workplace, whatever that may be and we also help them to get back to work.
And so, I’ve been in the field of working with people with disabilities for over 13 years and it is definitely a passion of mine and so when I was asked to be on the Employment Disability Resources Board, it was kind of a no-brainer for me because it kind of correlates with my values, and so I said yes. And so in October of last year I joined the Board.
I strongly believe that the best way to break the stigma or fears that individuals or businesses have is to provide education, awareness and resources to increase knowledge which helps break down those barriers so people with disabilities are given equal access to employment opportunities. So, I look forward to my time on the Board and all the work that we are going to do to help promote hiring people with disabilities.
