RAS Companies Managers met in Sioux Falls on November 1, 2022. As a company, they are trying to increase their knowledge and awareness of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging. Danyell Skillman, Director of Corporate Training at RAS, invited Vicki Stewart, Executive Director of Business Resource Network, to provide a “Disability Etiquette” training. Julie Waage, Vice President, Human Resources at RAS, provided training on “Mental Health in the Workplace.”

The training was very well received, and the managers appreciated the opportunity to learn and discuss ways to be a more inclusive workplace for people with disabilities. Melissa Zens, RAS Claims Supervisor, shared, “I appreciate RAS’s focus on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging.  The recent trainings they have provided to leadership have been invaluable and exemplifies their commitment to their employees. We all know the words we use (or don’t use) are very impactful. Vicki’s training on respectful disability language was very beneficial. The principle of ‘people-first’ language is easy to implement and makes so much sense. As a manager (and a mother raising our next generation), trainings such as these give me the knowledge I need to ensure I am promoting a positive environment and creating a community for all individuals to feel valued, respected, and understood.”

RAS also received a Disability Friendly award from Business Resource Network and the Sioux Falls Disability Awareness and Accessibility Review Board on December 16, 2022. This award recognizes businesses in Sioux Falls and the surrounding communities that employ people with disabilities. Ed Johnson, COO; Julie Waage, VP, Human Resources; and Rick Johnson, President and CEO, graciously received the award. RAS has provided employees with flexible work schedules and remote work options as reasonable accommodations.

Thank you, RAS, for providing training to your employees about Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging. You recognize the valuable contributions employees with disabilities bring to the workplace and serve as a shining example for other businesses.
